Stitch 36 Handmade

I recently had the pleasure of photographing my friend and fellow creative Brandi Henderson of Stitch 36 in her home studio in Brandon, MS where she designs and creates all of Stitch 36’s handmade pieces.

Stitch 36 is a handmade shop that sources and creates modern heirlooms and gifts for mommas and their littles. In their booth-tique inside Vintiques of downtown Brandon you'll find a variety of items, such as clothing, accessories, and blankets ready to go, but online Stitch 36 is mostly made to order. This way you can customize all the baby essentials to your liking and know that each item was made special just for you! Each piece is made using the highest quality materials and special attention to all the little details.

Stitch 36 was officially launched in the Fall of 2017 and since has created classic necessities for littles in a modern style that mommas will want to use for years to come. I was delighted to photograph Brandi and her workspace earlier this year and I’m so excited to share a little bit from Brandi about the business with you guys, as well.

Brandi is the owner and creator at Stitch 36 and this is what she shared with me about starting her own small business:

"I have always loved to create. Before I began sewing, I was a cosmetologist. Having kids changed my plans...in the best way of course! Whether I’m doing hair and makeup, or working with plants, home decor, or fabrics – I have to be doing something with my hands! I began sewing in 2011 when I was pregnant with Hollie, my first baby. A few projects sparked a love for sewing that I had no idea would become what it is to me now! I like to think I got that from my grandmothers who were all incredible seamstresses and quilters! Sewing fulfills my desire to create while using fabrics that inspire me. I love the endless possibilities. I’m drawn to prints that are inspired by nature, and anything with a vintage or modern feel. I love to create things that are whimsical, beautiful, and useful. When you receive one of my handmade items, I hope you feel the quality of the work and the materials used. I strive to provide the best of both so that these pieces last for many years to come."

You can see Brandi's creativity the moment you see her work. It's obvious the time and care put into each of her handmade items. When I asked her what makes her business unique she shared her passion for supporting small business and makers like herself.

She said, "Being a modern momma, I want items that are cute for my babies while fitting in with my style, and most importantly items that are useful and safe for baby. What I love about our company is that we offer all the classic items with a modern twist. Our original handmade items come in beautiful and whimsical prints that you’ll absolutely love! Our minky blankets are heavenly soft. All of our bibs and burp cloths are backed exclusively with organic cotton material that is super absorbent, and we try to use organic cotton prints when possible! Most of the prints we offer are fabrics that we source and have custom printed with designs created by independent artists. In our Vintiques space we offer a variety of items for both mom and baby that we have sought out from other small shops and artisans. So when a customer shops with us, they are supporting numerous small businesses and artisans with their purchase!"
